First impressions count. Experience tells us that we often sum up other people at first glance- on our first impression. Research tells us that we form an opinion when we meet someone for the first time in around seven seconds.
Confidently presenting ourselves in our best light, whether in our personal or professional lives, is key to winning others over with our charm. With genuineness and authenticity at heart of course (no fake smiles and personalities here please!)
When we feel confident and at ease in ourselves then the others around us feel unguarded. However, when we are nervous we can cause others to feel uncomfortable and awkward. So how we approach others counts.
In a style that is true to you and a reflection of who you are, how then can we charm the pants off (almost) anyone we meet?
1. Be Present
It’s all very Eckhart Tolle, but being present in your interactions with others is the ultimate secret to having charm. Everybody loves to be truly listened to and made to feel like what they have to say is important. Be engrossed and interested in what others have to say, ask questions, use eye contact and be enthused.
2. Be Warm & Genuine
Genuine and warm people are endearing- everybody likes being around them because they leave others feelings better after their conversations. Lead from the heart and be one of those people who you yourself like being around.
3. Bring Lightness & Positivity
Add honey to the conversation and something positive. Getting bogged down in negativity doesn’t make for enticing conversations. Add to peoples experience by keeping initial small talk positive and encouraging.
Nothing speaks more of charm then a warm and welcoming smile. Not only is it comforting, but it also lets others know you are approachable and engaging. A smile conveys interest and openness in others. And show your teeth when you’re smiling, none of this lips closed smile stuff!
5. Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
When meeting new people the quickest way to connect is often over a shared laugh. People who enjoy a little light-hearted fun and joke at themselves as much as they do others are always good people to be around. A little bit of fun banter and cheekiness can go along way to charming others.
