I can honestly say Don Miguel Ruiz is by far one of my most favorite authors.
This quote, in particular, was from his book The Four Agreements. You’ve seen me post this quote quite a few times but I believe it to be SO important as we often times become so attached to the perceptions others have about us.
What Don Miguel Ruiz teaches is that, we must not get attached to the criticism as well as the praise people may give us, because the truth is, praise and criticism are all the same.
WHAT?
Sure the praise sounds better right? Well, the truth is, it is merely based on the perception another has about you. A decision they have made about you in their minds which at any time can change.
So if we get attached to even the praise, how would we feel when their perception changes about you?
… Could it leave us feeling confused right?
That is why in order to become more connected to your truth you must disconnect yourself from the perceptions others have of you.
Which means to stop taking things personally!
Don Miguel Ruiz also discusses how taking things personally is the most selfish thing we can do because it makes the assumption that everything is about us… (deep huh?!)
