Why You Should Care More!

How Caring Could Change Your Emotional State

“In a world where people couldn’t care less, be someone who couldn’t care MORE.”

I was so inspired by this quote today! The reason why I was so inspired is that I thought about how much influence each individual has on the world. We are all influencing people daily whether you believe you are or not. We have the power to shape the emotions of any and everyone we come in contact with whether it’s in a negative or positive way.

Think about it, how many times have you found yourself getting angry over someone you didn’t even know at a grocery store, gas station, or even driving? In the same respect, how many strangers have you encountered who completely made your day?

I know I’ve had both and still find myself being shaped by people I encounter every day.

The question I have for you is, what kind of influence do you want to make someone’s day? If you knew you were able to make people feel a certain way, what way would you make them feel? Most of all, what would you have to do to make them feel that way? Now I’m not suggesting every interaction be thought out as I know life gets busy, but even if you couldn’t spend time getting to know a stranger or didn’t have the time to talk to them for 10min, what if you could exchange a smile?

Is it possible to do constant “check-ups” to ensure even the energy we are bringing with us is a positive one?

I believe “check-ups” are crucial not only for others but for ourselves, which leads me to my next challenge…

Challenge:

This week I want you to practice being fully present. I want you to check your emotional state before you leave to run an errand, go to the grocery store, clocking in for work, or spending time with your family. Before you do anything, write down the state that you are feeling at that time, whether it’s excited, happy, sad, frustrated, etc. I don’t care what emotion just write it down.

If you wrote down any emotion that was negative, I want you to “check yourself.” This doesn’t mean the source of the problem will go away but it will tell you that you are about to be in contact with other people and it is not fair to transfer such energy.

When you go into the world, I want you to be present of those around you, and see if you can look at them like family. The practice is to care about those around you. I promise you will see a miracle just in that practice.

After you are done going out into the world I want you to write down the emotion you currently feel and see if there was a shift? Write down what shifted (positive or negative emotion) and why? Then write down three positive things you observed while out.

If you didn’t see anything positive, well then my friend, we need to talk.
