How to Get Started on Something You Want to Do but Feel too Overwhelmed on Where to Start

by Christal Fuentes

Do you follow people that inspire you to actually go out and start your passion, but you get discouraged because you have no idea where to start or if you’d even be good enough?

GURRRRL this is all for you. Today, Chrissy and I sit down together again, and instead of discussing dating tips like we did on our first podcast episode, we are going to get real and share The Ladies Coach journey with you all.

Chrissy even channels her inner Barbara Walters, when she asks me some questions you ladies have sent over. For so long you all have asked me to share my journey of how I got started, well today’s that day!

Not only do we discuss what passion really is and how to know if you’re doing the right thing, we also get real about our struggles with TLC and the #1 thing we do to keep going.

Along this journey, I’ve had countless people who have inspired me for different reasons. The first one we discuss is Tony Robbins.

He really is THE MAN when it comes to… well.. everything, but especially when it comes down to human behavior and why we do what we do. So many of you have asked me what “coaching credentials” I have or what coaching institutes I’ve been accredited and I have a lot to say about this topic so stay tuned.

The other person I talk about is Marie Forleo! If you don’t follow her, you should she is brilliant.

When I first started TLC I wanted to be able to use my gift in a way that would translate the same way it would if I were in a  one-on-one setting or in front of people. Video was definitely the way to do this, but I didn’t know how to even start. Luckily I found Marie Forleo through Tony Robbins (ironically enough).

He interviewed her on his The New Money Masters series and everything she discussed with him was everything I was feeling in that moment. So I looked her up RIGHT away and sure enough, she had been doing exactly what I envisioned for myself, which was to create inspiring content through video that would give a lesson without being too preachy and if there’s anyone who does this flawlessly, it is Marie.

I racked up a few topics that I saw mattered to the women I was coaching, and I turned the camera on thinking I was gonna wing the fuck out of this thing…

Little did I know I was REALLY fucking bad in front of the camera. FOR REALZ! It was absolutely horrendous. I couldn’t get through a single sentence without flubbing up my words. I found it so awkward to speak to a “pretend” audience and it showed. I actually got discouraged. I thought. “Well.. I guess video is out since I’m just not that good at it.”

It took me a good week to recover before I punk’d the shit out of myself (sorry for all the language I’m really passionate about this as you can see) and sat my ass in front of the camera until I felt less awkward.

The more I spoke to it, the more confident I felt to shoot my very first video, which still to this day is CRINGE WORTHY when I look back at it, but the moral of this story is we all have to start somewhere. We can make all the excuses in the world of why NOT starting something is for our best interest, but it’s just a bullshit story we make up so we don’t ever have to feel failure. But not starting is the actual failure!

The third person I mentioned in today’s podcast is Lauryn from The Skinny Confidential.
I remember the time I wanted to take my coaching online, Andrew and I were living ppart-timein Macau and I had NO idea about the blogging space. ZERO clue. I actually stumbled upon hers through a little research on my end and I fell in love.

Her voice was so authentic and her content was ON POINT. Even at that time, she did it way better than most do now. Why? Because she truly cares about the quality of her content. Seeing the way she did that made me want to stay true to my voice and reach women through my personality.
I know I’m going on and on but I know you will get so much out of today’s podcast so make sure you are giving it a listen and let us know what you think!

As promised in today’s episode, below are the resources we’ve mentioned as well as a look at how far TLC has come from 2013 to now. It’s embarrassing for me but it’s important you know that everyone starts somewhere and at the end of the day, that’s where you need to start.

ACTIONABLE OF THE DAY:

What’s something you know you want to do but are too overwhelmed to get started? WRITE IT DOWN

VOMIT on paper the excuses/reasons you have for not starting (this is a judgment-free zone)

Out of all the reasons you wrote down, CIRCLE the reason that holds the most weight. (ex. I have a family that depends on me and I need to be making consistent money)

Create 5 alternative solutions to that ONE problem that would alleviate that fear. This is the time to get out of your head. (Example: I can still work my full-time job and still give 3 hours a day to my passion)

SCHEDULE IT IN YOUR CALENDAR and START!
