Dealing with Disappointment on Your Self-Help Journey – Snapchat Real Talk

by Christal Fuentes

Here’s the thing ladies, we all want to better our lives right? Well.. Duh! You’re on this site because you do. But here’s what nobody tells you…

You are going to be disappointed.

Oh yes. Self-improvement will be downright disappointing at times. Why? Because no matter what you are trying to develop, you will encounter shitty people.
At times, these shitty people could be “heroes” in your prospective fields, and if they aren’t people, they may be organizations that you hold in a high regard, and you will see that they really don’t vibe with you.

Disappointment WILL happen. It’s not just a maybe. But here’s the thing, everyone is just trying to find their way. Nobody has hierarchy over you.

What does this mean?

It means that everyone is finding their way. And no matter what chapter you think they are on in their journey, there’s not one person on this earth that has made it enough to be better than you. And if they believe they have, they haven’t done the REAL spiritual work.

Why does this all matter?

I never want you to give up because you think you are not enough. YOU ARE!

Someone else’s insecurity has nothing to do with you even though they might try to make you feel like it is. If anyone wants to try to impose their beliefs and make you feel like you aren’t worthy for the journey you are on, it says more about the work THEY have to do than you.

We are all students of life, and the goal is to find people you can learn from that don’t make you feel inferior. The truth is, if you come across anyone that has “made it” in a prospective field, you will notice how eager they are to bring focus to your BEST self, not what you’re lacking.

If you ever run into someone that makes you feel this way, always remember this…

1. It’s ok to be disappointed, but NEVER EVER let anyone make you feel like you aren’t good enough.

2. Detach yourself from their “personal” opinion. As the saying goes, “opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one,” and true assholes will try to impose their belief by projecting their fears.

3. Handle them with grace and integrity. Once you’re able to dis-attach yourself from their criticism, the easier it is to handle them with compassion. Who knows, you might end up teaching them a thing or two.

4. Don’t ever let anyone stop you in your journey. You keep fucking going!

This was one situation with disappointment out of many I’ve come across in my life, business, growth and with personal relationships. But they have all shown me that no matter who you are, we all fight the same battles and that although I look up to people for particular successes, doesn’t mean they have it all together, and it’s important we never take what people say personally.

Have you ever been disappointed by someone or an organization you once admired? COMMENT BELOW your experience and how you came out on the other side!
