So… I’m a little (LOTTA, MUCHO, OVERLY) obsessed with Goldie Hawn. In fact, I’d love to be adopted into her family immediately. They just have all the cool peeps right? Goldie, Kate, and Kurt Russell!
I have probably watched “Overboard” a million times over and just never get sick of it. Also, knowing that Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell actually starting dating after that movie together makes it that much more meaningful. Did you know Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have spent more than 30 years together without marriage?! It’s safe to say, they have been my idols in the relationship realm. Inspiring people that they don’t need a marriage to be absolutely committed to one another. I actually did a topic about this very subject called, “Things to Think About Before Getting Married.”
If you haven’t watched that video I encourage you to do that soon! (Again, I believe marriage is beautiful AS LONG as the relationship takes the focus.) Anyways, back to Goldie Hawn, (besides me wanting to be an official member of her family), I want to shine a light on a program she (The Hawn Foundation) has founded since 2001 called MindUP.
“MindUP™ is a research-based training program for educators and children. This program is composed of 15 lessons based in neuroscience. Students learn to self-regulate behavior and mindfully engage in the focused concentration required for academic success. MindUP™ lessons align with all state standards including Common Core and support improved academic performance while enhancing perspective taking, empathy, and kindness as well as fostering complex problem-solving skills.”
There are not enough good things to say about what she has done with this program. She has helped thousands of children each year to take control of their happiness by managing their emotions. I get so many emails from women each week who struggle with anxiety. Well, the main reason we as adults “struggle” with our emotions, is because we weren’t taught how to acknowledge and manage the feelings that came up when we were younger.
Have you ever asked someone, “Whats wrong?” and they replied, “I don’t know?”
How is it, that as adults, we are not able to articulate WHY we feel a certain way? Then we wonder why we suffer and medicate, then suffer more and medicate more… This CAN NOT be the norm anymore. We have to start understanding our emotions a little bit better. Especially if kids are in the picture.
This week’s TLC Reading Corner, “10 Mindful Minutes” by Goldie Hawn helps parents learn mindful practices that help their children understand emotions and feelings as they come. You actually don’t need to be a parent at all to read this. In fact, I don’t have kids and this book has helped me be more mindful of my own emotions.
The research in this book was developed by the research of psychologists, neuroscientists and MD’s and what they have discovered from the mindfulness practices Goldie Hawn believes in. Make sure this becomes the very next book you read because it might even help you through some of the emotions you struggle with!
Without further ado, I introduce to you, 10 Mindful Minutes by Goldie Hawn!
