Feeling Bored With Your Usual Routine? Here’s 5 Ways to Shake Things Up

If you feel and think to yourself often, “Oh, I’m so bored with life!” then I will tell you there is good news and bad news.

Bad news: your life is lacking passion, purpose, drive, fulfillment and happiness.

Good news: your life is lacking passion, purpose, drive, fulfillment and happiness and you can do something to change it!

Boredom is an indicator, just like frustration is, that your life is not aligned to your dreams and vision, your heart, your desires. Boredom actually means that your life could use more enthusiasm, passion, and joy in your everyday life. You can do something, starting today, to change your life and infuse more passion, joy, drive and happiness in your life.

Here are five ways to shake the boredom:

1. Add more variety!

One of the basic human needs, along with significance, love and connection, and certainty, is variety! We do need to feel certain in life, otherwise, we can experience anxiety and uneasiness every single day, but we also need variety in our life. Experiencing new things and having some surprises in life (variety!) is as needed for us to be happy as it is to know that we are safe or we will have a food on our table and our bills paid this month (certainty!).

The moment variety is absent from our life, we will start feeling… yes, bored! Bored, empty, passionless, and dull.

Now, when you know why you are feeling bored and that it is a dangerous feeling for your happiness, it is time that you add some variety in your life. Make it a goal to try something new every day. It can be as simple as taking a new route to work, or reading a new genre of book. Order something other than your “usual” off the menu or visit a new coffee shop. If you can afford to travel, that is a great way to experience variety, even if you can only make it an hour or two away for the weekend.

2. Take action!

To truly experience more fulfillment and passion and joy in your life, it is not enough just to add some new activities or flavors into your everyday life (although it is a great thing to start with). If you are continually complaining about the job you hate, how you will be single forever, or how you can just never catch a break, then i to TAKE ACTION. I know that is not easy and it might be the most difficult thing you will need to do, but it will be all worth it.

We are in control of our own lives and while being grateful for all the things we do have, if something doesn’t feel aligned with our innermost selves, it may be time to take massive action. You can get a new job. You can attract the right relationship by making sure YOU are living up to your standards. When you waking in the morning charged up and happy with the excitement to live one more day the fear and uncertainty of change will all be worth it.

3. Set new goals.

Even if you have all the things in your life “in order” and you accomplished every goal and dream of yours, you can still be bored with life. Psychological researchers are showing that after we achieve our desired goal and dream, after six months our level of happiness we felt after the accomplishment will nearly be gone!

So, what’s the secret of being happy long term? The secret is that you need to progress and grow in life to feel happy.

As humans, we strive to achieve goals. So, if you are feeling bored in life that can also mean that you are not “rocking the boat” in your life right now and that you are floating in your comfort zone. Push the fear aside, set new and exciting goals for yourself in order to eradicate boredom from your life. Forever.

4. Get inspired and get MOTIVATED!

You can not feel charged up, infused with passion, joy and drive if you are feeling bored. In order for you to “shake things up” you need to get into a different emotional state. How can you do that? Well, first of all, laugh! Surround yourself with people who make you laugh, and lift your spirits.

Get outside and run or go to the gym, or dance… move your body in whatever way feel good for you! Just move your body and you will feel how your biochemistry is changing and affecting your emotions. When we are doing any kind of exercise or physical activity, that will release endorphins, also known as ”the happiness hormone”, which can help clear the mind and increase energy levels.

And last but not the least in importance: get motivated! Read some inspiring books, watch a YouTube motivational video, read some more articles like this (the fact that you are reading this article right now means that you are ready to make a change, and for that pat yourself on the back!). Instead of reading and watching junk, feed your mind with inspiration, motivation, and knowledge that will help you succeed and thrive and grow in life!

5. Hire a coach or sign up for a motivational workshop.

Just sitting at home in your sweatpants will very likely not be enough to get you to make some significant change, as you might be feeling dull and lonely and eating a big carton of ice-cream at the same time, listening to your favorite song and reading this article or advice half minded and kind of sleepy (did I just describe what you are doing at the moment?) In that kind of state, it is very unlikely that you will be charged up, get up and actually DO something to make things happen in your life!

So, get the support you need and sign up for a motivational workshop, where you will be surrounded by the group of people who will be in the same life spot where you are right now and where you will get first-hand advice from an expert which you will be able to absorb much better than on your sofa in your pj’s. You will get into totally different mental and emotional state if you attend a live event.

For long term motivation, guidance and tools on changing your life, get a life coach or some other coach in the niche which will help you make the changes in your lif. They can help you set and achieve your goals much faster and more effective than if you would try to do it on your own!

Getting the tools and guidance how to have a relationship you want, take your business to the next level or how to make a career change, or what action steps to take to achieve your goals will surely help you to get unstuck in your life, and get rid of the boredom forever!
