Happy Monday! Or for some of you, Mondays might not be so happy. Let’s do a little “check-in” right now, wherever you are, what emotion are you feeling most today? If it’s stressed, anxious, frustrated, or overwhelmed, ask yourself (why?).
Is it work, school, family, kids, friends, schedule, bills, a relationship? Maybe all? Here’s the deal, we are always going to have responsibilities and obligations, but if we have a disempowering meaning to any one of these things, it will easily make us feel overwhelmed.
Here is a trick we can try together today. Take the one thing that comes to mind that makes you dread most days. The most common thing I see people dread on Monday’s is going back to work!… So I’ll use this as an example. If work is something that is currently causing you to stress, anxiousness or leaving you feeling overwhelmed, think about why that is first.
Examples:
- No time for myself
- Not the job I’m passionate about
- I don’t get along with people at work
- My boss is jerk
(These are just some of the many things I hear from people.)
Now that we went through some disempowering beliefs about “Work,” and when I say “disempowering” I don’t mean that these things aren’t true. What’s listed above could be very true, however, they are also “truly” causing you to feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed because you will feel that work is not serving you at all and that you are wasting your life going but you “have” to, which leaves you feeling not in control. And that feeling is what drives people crazy.
Here’s a new list I want you to think about.
What are some of the things work is making POSSIBLE for you to do in your life?
**Remember, I’m using work as an example, if work is not something that overwhelms you, think of something that is and go through the same process with me.**
Examples:
- Pay bills
- Have a roof over my head
- Provide for my family
- Putting me through school
- Getting me closer to dream job
This list sounds a lot better right? It sounds like it’s serving you more than the overwhelmed list right? This new and empowering list makes it seem you are a living a life of purpose too, which means you may not be wasting your time after all!
Now, there may be some of you who say, “Well, I couldn’t find anything positive to list… and here’s why today’s post is just for you.
If you can’t find any meaning to what you are doing, stop doing it. Change it. Don’t allow yourself to feel overwhelmed and like you have no control because you have all the control. And if you are doing something that makes you feel overwhelmed, you most certainly are doing them for the wrong reasons.
Let’s start creating new meanings about everything we do from now on. Let’s become more empowered about the life we live. That is when your Mondays will start to become something you anticipate rather than dread!
