Christal discusses what kills relationships most – How to let go of expectations and raise our standards for a more fulfilling life – What being a people pleaser REALLY is and what would’ve been the breaking point of Christal and Andrew’s relationship.
I am finally doing a podcast episode on something I believe RARELY get’s talked about, yet is one of the biggest cause of relationship problems.
Standards and Expectations are the number one cause of relationship problems that I see.
There’s some serious confusion around these two terms. At times, people use them pretty interchangeably, but they are VERY different. And it’s important we get it straight because it’s not only disrupting the relationships around us, but it’s also causing us some unnecessary grief and aggravation.
In the words of Tony Robbins:
“Trade your expectations for appreciation and the world changes in an instant.”
“But if you let go of expectations, people will just walk all over you!”
Thought you’d say that. No one can shit on you without your permission. If you think “expecting” someone to behave in a certain way is going to stop them from walking all over you, you have another thing coming.
In fact, having expectations of people is a form of control yet, do we ever really have control over what someone does?
NO!
Yet, we take it personally when someone doesn’t meet our expectations.
You know what’s better than expectations and the thing that will filter out the bullshit (people and situations) in your life? It’s a beautiful word called STANDARDS. Standards are the protectors of our core values, not to mention, are in charge of your quality of life.
In today’s podcast, we are going to discuss how to raise the standards of our life and release expectations. If you are frustrated that you keep getting with the same types of people or are sick and tired of being hurt by too many people, this is this episode is for you!
If you are currently in a relationship but wonder how to get your spouse on the same page as you, this podcast episode is for you.
I want you to remember this. There are 3 Keys to Raising Your Standards and Living your Truth in your Relationships:
1. Self-awareness
Turn the focus on you and your values. What are your VALUES?
2. Trust what you value matters (Confidence)
Trust that who you are, what you do and what you give matters.
** Without trust you will constantly be in seeking mode **
3. Speak the truth
Stop fitting a square peg in a round hole! Stand up for what you want!
Hope you enjoy today’s episode and be sure to comment your “ah-has” below!
